The Author
The short version
I grew up in Carbon Hill and Nauvoo, Alabama, in the kind of small towns where everybody knows whose truck is whose. At Carbon Hill High School I led many of the school's clubs and organizations, an early sign of the role I would keep for the rest of my life: the person things run through.
At eighteen I moved to Birmingham for school, earned a business degree, and stayed. I work in customer operations, and I am working my way toward systems and operations work, the kind where the keeping of things is the job itself.
Because keeping is, in the end, my subject. I archive history, photographs back to the 1940s, documents, and voices, on the grounds that people and moments in time are the first thing I ever wanted to keep forever and the one thing nobody gets to keep. This site is the public shelf of that instinct: a daily news wire that prints facts with their sources attached, and a resources page built so that help is easy to find and free to take.
My rule is people over profit, humanity over hate. I hold that differences are not a thing to tolerate but a richness to welcome, and that respect runs beyond people, to animals, to living things, and to the objects that serve us. Everything I do toward others is meant with good intent; I would rather hand someone the number, the link, or the ride than watch them go without.
